Very recently the person running the private venture that is making traveling to mars possible, Bas Lansdorp, said in an interview with CBC that they’re actually looking for the people they’ll be sending to mars right now. These people should be people the type of people that are “at their best when things are at their worst” and they’ll be training for eight years.
There is a catch though, these people won’t be able to come back to earth. In the interview Lansdorp said that the technology to get humans to mars exists, but the technology needed to come back does not. Essentially, Mars One is looking for the first Human Martians, as I like to call them, since they will finish their life on that planet with very few other human beings.
